"I got a little bit too excited there""Our goal with this project was to deviate from the typical ski film formula and make a movie that provides insight into the real life of skiers everywhere," said producer Jason Winkler of The Waiting Game. We're not so sure about that: The Waiting Game reveals little about the reality of professional skiing, beyond the fact that there's a lot sitting around involved on location. But it's a superb film nonetheless - remarkable for two reasons: 1. It's one of the first ski movies to be shot on a high-definition format, and, 2. More importantly, the footage is SICK - wall-to-wall American freeriding of the highest quality. Highlights include some insane cliff-jumping sequences from Wyoming (including a near-suicidal 30ft double-bomb by two skiers near Grand Targhee), the ultimate powder porn from Utah and lots and lots and LOTS of big-mountain skiing in Alaska. For our second welove2ski.com Clip of the week, we've picked the most impressive of the many Alaskan sequences - showing Swedish freeskier Sverre Liliequist in action. This guy really skis on the edge - faster and more impulsively than any of the other skiers featured - and he never seems far from disaster. As you'll see... Since the making of the film, Liliequist has made skiing headlines by making the first descent of a 65-70 degree face of the Harp, at Mica Creek in British Columbia. Check out the Youtube clip of his turns. |
