Colorado's Vail - and resorts under the same ownership - have launched a series of deals aimed at whipping up spring business. Vail itself is offering 20% off accommodation. It also has a four nights for the price of three deal and is cutting 50% off rates each night to guests staying five nights or more.

Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone are offering 25% reductions and Heavenly in California is offering five nights for the price of four to anyone also paying for three days of skiing or snowboarding. Prices in Keystone, or example, start at roughly £35 per person, per night.

Most of the deals must be booked by March 27 or 28 - and apply to stays from then onwards. They are available to independent travellers via snowusa but have also been made available to UK tour operators - so watch out for late package holiday offers.
