Piste Map

Verbier's superb lift-serviced, off-piste terrain.

The kick-ass bars and clubs.

The stunning scenery.

The fact that it's base camp for ski schools such as the Warren Smith Ski Academy and Powder Extreme - making it one of the best resorts in the world to make the transition from piste to powder.

The atmosphere - more cosmopolitan than Val d'Isère and less alcoholic than St Anton, its two main rivals

The new Snowjet flights to Sion - knocking at least a couple of hours off your journey time to the resort.

The survival of a basic apartments, bog-standard chalets and straight-down-the-line three star hotels in the middle of Verbier - which means you can still stay in there without spending a fortune.

The bargain-basement option of staying down the mountain in Le Chable - and the new evening bus service which runs between it and Verbier.

The appearance of hotels and bars pandering only to the über-rich. Chalet for £70,000 anyone? Cocktail for five grand?

The pretence that Verbier is some kind of intermediate-friendly rival to the Three Valleys in France - it isn't.

The pistes immediately above the town Verbier itself - overcrowded and hammered by the sun.

The slow, tedious, and completely awful on-piste Four Valleys itinerary.

The fact that the key lifts are in one corner, rather than the middle, of the town.

The sprawling suburbs of private chalets.

The dwindling number of hotel rooms - and old-fashioned nature of many that remain.

verbier.net is not the official site for Verbier. Please visit www.verbier.ch for general information. And for the lift company, the site is www.verbierbooking.com. And note that you can ski in Verbier now every week end in November!

Book them when you get here with your tour operator. If your not travelling with one, it's not too hard to get them in the morning of your fisrt day. The offices are just next to the lifts.

I'm going mad!! I'm trying to book 4 lift passes for 8 days for the 4 valleys (Verbier). Apparently it should cost appprox £220 per person. However, when I go to the official verbier.net site, I end up with a bill of over £2000! What is going on??!! Any comments/tips VERY gratefully received!
