35km of pistes

Adult lift pass: 121 Euros for six days

Resort elevation: 1550m/5090ft

Vertical skiing range: 1062m/3484ft

Ste Foy is the little resort with a big reputation - for good-quality snow, some very agreeable groomers, and the kind of off-piste that can tempt skiers away from Val d'Isère. What people really like about this place, however, is the laid-back atmosphere.

The north-facing slopes.

The powder days.

The quality of the (limited number of) upper-intermediate groomers.

The long, even pitch of the off-piste.

Lunch on the sun deck of Les Brevettes restaurant

The low-key architecture.

The consistently above-average accommodation.

The happy, laid-back atmosphere. No-one can quite believe their luck here - resorts this relaxing are a rare thing in the French Alps. It feels more like Canada.

The fact that Val d'Isère, Tignes and Les Arcs are all within a 25-minute drive.

The lack of crowds and queues - though we can't be sure how long that's going to last.

Actually, there's nothing to hate here: provided you come here expecting a small, cute, low-key resort with limited skiing (though there's plenty more nearby).

The idea that the current spate of construction might continue and overwhelm the capacity of pistes and lifts.

I have been skiing this resort since it opened about 10 years ago. I've tried others but just keep coming back! Quiet pistes even during the busiest weeks, much cheaper than nearby Tignes, Val etc - what's not to love? Highly recommended to anyone not looking for wild parties everynight - the skiing is second to none.
